God Who?

Q: Who is GOD?

This is a question I’ve asked myself many times (see My Story page).  I’ve been largely agnostic until I decided that I wanted to know God, however, God didn’t turn out to be who I wanted Him to be.

A: Jesus / Y’SHUA

Q: How can you be so sure God is Jesus? Based on what?

A: Based on His miracles up to the present day (see Miracles of Jesus), the numerous prophecies about His life death and resurrection from thousands of years before He came (see Prophecies of Jesus), His words of forgiveness and restoration (see Forgiveness and Restoration) and not self-actualization. [self-actualization means we can get to heaven by ourselves] His prophecies that have come true and are coming true today, His claim to be God and his demonstration by doing what no one else could ever do – resurrect from the dead, the way he cares for a looser like me and the miracles He worked for me. For example, He took away the intense emotional pain that I felt throughout my life and He will never let me kill myself.

April 3, 33 AD

Q: If Jesus was crucified on the date, 4. 3. 33 AD at 9:00 AM and died on the same date at 3:00 PM then do those numbers mean something?

Negative turned into a positive.

Number 3?

A: Several numbers experts have concluded that Jesus was crucified on 4.  3. 33 AD (see Wikipedia under Lunar Eclipse).  It seems to me, if that is correct, those numbers are SCREAMING something to us.  Clearly the Bible, both old and new testaments, use numbers in a meaningful way, which can’t be ignored.  “In conveying God’s revelation they doubtless communicated matters in patterns that were familiar to them and to the surrounding ancient Near Eastern world” (Introduction to the Third Day Motif, Study By: Richard D. Patterson). Obviously, cultural aspects are involved, yet it transcends cultures.

Q: Concerning Jesus’ death and resurrection are many threes (4.3.33; death at 3 PM).  Do many threes have meaning?

A: According to Patterson, from his study, The Use Of Three In The Bible, it is significant.

use of the number three in a series, which conveys implications and expectations beyond the normal conventional meaning, so the third day often carries with it an additional sense or nuance. It seems apparent from the scriptural record that the third day was selected for a given activity or matter at hand for some distinct purpose and attendant emphasis, which those who were involved in the situation understood. Likewise those who later heard or read of the incident would be familiar with the various possible emphases in the choice.

Q:  Since we are those reading about “the incident” do all those threes jump out and tell us more?

A:  Patterson goes on to list examples such as, how our “spiritual healing is associated with” the number three.  Month number 3 is connected to a “significant action or event” that occurred. Three can also stand for “completeness or finality.”  His sacrifice on the cross was complete and He was resurrected from the dead finally and forever on day three.  Sometimes, three will indicate “new information that will generate further activity” (The Use Of Three In The Bible, Study By: Richard D. Patterson).

Resurrection certainly is new information and it has generated further activity from then till now.

Worse Than A Fatal Car Wreck

Q:  Why is it so powerful to look at scenes of the crucifixion?

Image The crucifixion gets our attention regardless of our beliefs.  The scene is worse than a fatal car wreck.  People have not become totally numb to the paintings and films depicting Jesus’ crucifixion. When The Passion Of The Christ came out it created such a stir because for the first time in art history we saw the realistic brutality of not only crucifixion but Jesus’ crucifixion. His crucifixion was different from all others. We see horrible things in this present age that our minds have become desensitized to viewing. In the modern art of TV we see realistic murders, explosions, guns pointed at people’s’ heads and pools of blood. In the news we see the same things but they’re real. Yet the crucifixion of Jesus has some how never lost the “drama”, if you will, that keeps us focused on watching and wanting to learn more about it. Why is that?

A: Jesus himself answers this question in John 12:32And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

With crucifixion, the condemned is up off the ground and upright. Almost like someone on stage or a tall statue to get our attention. Notice that he said, all of us will be drawn to him when we see him lifted up off the ground. When we see Jesus up off the ground with his arms stretched out, wearing a crown of thorns and bleeding we can not stop looking at him.

But wait, there’s more!

In John 6:30, people ask him, “Then what miraculous sign will you perform, so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?

Basically, we need more than you saying that you are GOD we need a visual sign that no human can perform. That’s a fair question. In those days, every pharaoh and emperor claimed god status and people got the ax for not believing them.

Q: People today are asking, “How do we know that Jesus is truly God?” After all, many people now claim to be god.

A: John 6:62Then what if you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?

After Jesus was lifted up to die people saw him lifted up ALIVE and ascending to heaven. He gave us the a sign that no human can accomplish to prove that He is God. That sign is visible to this very day!

Q: How, you are asking?

A: That miraculous Shroud of Turin keeps giving us answers as well as deeper questions.

I can’t get enough of this website, ShroudofJesus.com. To summarize, there are multiple images on this shroud and crime scene investigators are using advanced technology on each image. CSI’s have determined that the image of the man (the one no PhD. can understand how the image was made) is actually showing us a man who is up off the ground in an upright position.

That is the sign. Jesus lifted up off the ground in an upright position. We can’t stop looking at this sign in its many forms. His sign is saying; John 14:6 Jesus replied,“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me.
