Then There’s Max

Several years ago, I saw and heard Max Lucado speak.  I had never heard of him before but I went with some people who read his books and heard him talk.  After hearing him I have no regrets and I’ll jump at the next opportunity.

Max Lucado wasn’t preachy or showy nor did he make himself the center of attention.  The building where I saw him was big but not a ginormous professional basketball stadium.  If there were cameras I never saw them, he did not take center stage but actually stood off to the left most of the time.  The experience was not a noise extravaganza with people cheering and screaming, not that there’s anything wrong with that, it was a simple and comfortable environment.  No razzle dazzle.

Lucado didn’t come across as one who was putting on an act but one who was genuine and genuinely talked about Jesus.  He’s a positive preacher but not a “prosperity preacher”.  I don’t remember the theme of his speech but he had me in tears and ice water runs through my veins.   What he said was substantial, I left there completely full not empty as is usually the case with preachers.

Since then, I’ve read a few of Lucado’s books and I’ll read anything he writes and watch any of his broadcasts, which are few.  Afterward, I always feel moved by his message and he doesn’t have to scream or use the word “money” constantly.

Check out his website MaxLucado.com, I highly recommend his message.

Joel Osteen Doesn’t Know

Joel Osteen, “I believe my way with all my heart.”  Watch him say it on “Lary King” and decide for yourself what it means.

A while back, I visited Lakewood Church when I was in Houston and I found it to be nothing more than a big production. There was a stage, a camera operator on a big crane down front, lights, loud music with lots of people clapping and cheering the stars. You know who the stars of that show are, Mr and Mrs Preacher. That’s how everybody acted, like they were the stars of the show. Not Jesus.

It doesn’t appear as showy on TV as it does in real life but maybe all broadcasts are like that. Although, Joel Osteen’s message is all positive it’s missing something and feels shallow, at least to me. The majority of the crowd acted all happy, most were all smiles yet not really friendly. In fact, I found the people outside of the church to be more friendly and helpful than anyone inside. People inside the church didn’t even look at me much less say anything to me. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t dressed up in expensive clothes.

I’ve learned never trust people who smile constantly, they’re all hiding something. Mr and Mrs Preacher were all smiles in front of the camera and crowd but they acted like they couldn’t wait to run away from they’re adoring fans. As soon as the camera was off so were they and the choir immediately took their places and sang louder than before.

I’m not sure that I ever heard anyone speak the name of Jesus the whole time I was there. I left feeling empty and I never returned to Lakewood. Actually, it wasn’t unlike the average American church without cameras.

Church of the Drug Cartel

The Mexican drug madness

From the Christian Post:”Mexico’s epidemic of violence first erupted in 2006, according to most accounts.  But an ex-Muslim from India, who serves as a Christian pastor along the  Texas-Mexican border, believes the problem began much earlier, with human  sacrifice, witches, and the adoration of death in ancient Aztec days.”

“In addition to the almost 50,000 estimated to have died in Mexico’s drug violence, another 10,000 have disappeared without a trace. Many of these, Elijah is convinced, are the victims of Satanic rituals that require human sacrifice.”

Hyper Vigilance For People

Something positive came from a kidnapping!  A teen who was kidnaped in Guatemala City now has a “hyper vigilance for people” concerning their safety.  Read more about Bethani Thomas on the International Mission Board website.

Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Matthew 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.  18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.

Daily Bread Update 8

Luke 11:3,Give us each day our daily bread.”

When I was young I resented people who were given things.   My thoughts were, “I never get anything.  Why did he get that instead of me?  It never occurred to me that I got many good things, after all, I wasn’t eating out of a garbage can.   My attitude was despicable.

Then I learned that God wants to give us good things and we must ask for whatever we need and want.  My attitude has completely changed in the opposite direction.

Today, I received an amazing surprise.  Some people asked if I wanted things out of their house and of course I said yes.  They gave me boxes of kitchen things, decor, lamps, furniture and a washer and dryer!  I went numb.  I’ve been needing a washer and dryer for months and haven’t had the money to buy cheap new ones.  Not only did they just give me these things but helped me load them.

I don’t deserve anything that God gives me but I need it and I thank God for it all!

Silver Is Up

English: Historical silver price in USD and in...

Historical silver price in USD and inflation adjusted silver price in USD. The chart shows Silver Thursday event as a peak in 1980 when Hunt brothers drove up the price of silver through speculations and after it they lost about a billion dollars. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Silver post from July 13, 2012.

Silver price was $27 in July and now it’s up a little to about $30.  I bought 3 silver coins today for investment purposes but I bought today based on the gently rising price and I have some money to spend.  Apparently, silver has more demand than ever because it’s used to make all these electronic devices we can’t live without and it isn’t mind enough.  Forget about jewelry.

Shane Warren has dreams and visitations from God.  One of those dreams involved a hurricane (he didn’t know if it’s a figurative or literal storm) hitting middle America while at the same time the US dollar is devalued.  Then silver prices sky-rocket up to gold prices.  With that, problems mining silver and hurricane Isaac hitting New Orleans exactly 7 years later I see no reason not to invest in silver.

Also, out of the four big metals that are traded; gold, silver, platinum and palladium, silver is the least expensive at well under $100.  The other three are over $1000.  For those of us who actually want to buy low and sell high this might be our last chance to buy silver at a price that can bring a profit.

One thing I’ve learned the hard way is when I’ve followed the heard I ended up just like them.  I’ve bought stocks that were popular and sold when they lost value.  I should have bought quality instead of only popularity that was priced low then sold after it became popular.

Psalms 105:37 He brought his people  out enrichedwith silver and gold; none of his tribes stumbled.

Daily Bread Update 7

Luke 11:3,Give us each day our daily bread.”

I continue to ask God for my daily bread and He continues to give me what I need each day!  A few weeks ago, I got home late and my blood sugar was falling fast.  I was shaky and light-headed and needed to eat immediately but didn’t have anything ready to eat on hand.  A neighbor said she had a pizza that she didn’t like and I could have it so I did.  God gave me food exactly when I needed it!

I’ve needed work and God gave me some temp jobs just when I needed them.

This past week, some people gave me a bunch of old things that they didn’t want to keep or have time to sell in a garage sale.  It was home goods that I can use and tons of quality items that I can sell.  None of it was junk.

What ever amount of money I make from selling these things and the temp jobs I’m giving God the first ten percent despite the money problems I’m currently having!
