Who Are The Captives?

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me.  He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.

Who are the captives?  When I read the word, “captives” I think of someone in a historical film who’s locked up in a dungeon, wearing torn clothes with hands and feet chained.  Who are the captives today?  Large numbers of young children who are sex slaves but also adults.

Human trafficking is a legal term for moving slaves around.  We could call it kidnapping and rape slavery but we don’t.  These poor humans are being held captive against their will and forced to do sick things.

Some of them are deceived into this Hell by being told they’ll get jobs or an education.  Others are sold into slavery by their “loved ones”.  Right now, parents are selling their flesh and blood with full knowledge of what will happen to them.  Some are not even being sold for much money. Human trafficking is not just in far away places, it’s here in North America too.  Perhaps WE passed by a captive sex slave on our way to work today.

Time to set your cappuccino down and feel uncomfortable.  Jesus wants you and I to set the captives free!

How do WE set children free from Hell as slaves?  What does Jesus want us to do?  Obviously, we can’t all fly across the globe or break down a whore house like SWAT but WE are capable of doing something big.

WE can pray, fast and ask God to work miracles!  WE can also sacrifice a few expensive meals in a restaurant, some bling, another flat screen TV and give that money to people with the resources to buy these children from those who own them.  Usually, that’s how their rescued.  Governments look the other way and even become clients so missionaries must rescue them with money to buy their freedom.  How sick is that?

Jesus wants all the captives free!

God Defies X-Ray

Gary Wood was DOA and EMT’s found no vital signs for 21 minutes.  Now he’s alive and talks without a functioning larynx!  The X-ray is proof.

Did I mention his broken neck?

Don’t take my word for it, watch it yourself on Sid Roth.

No Questions No Answers

40+196 Hssssss Many people look at me with hatred when I ask questions about various topics.  Those hateful looks are underserved, most of the time.  I don’t typically pry into people’s personal lives, in fact, I’m largely not interested in others.  It’s simply that I’m inquisitive about many subjects, especially history, art and science.

When discussing things with people, I think out loud (AKA “talking to myself”) and ask questions.  “What would have caused so-in-so to do that?  What was the purpose of using rigid material to build those?  How can I get rid of those weeds without killing all the animals in this zip code?  Questions like that often elicit hateful looks.

My question is, what is it that they hate so much?

Could it be because the average person is a shallow puddle of water and they don’t like watching someone else dig deep for answers?

Could it be because these hateful people don’t really want answers?  Or is it something else?

The answer likely varies by individuals.  However, I have learned this absolute truth.  If we don’t ask questions we won’t get answers.

Jesus told us to ask.

Governments Don’t Approve

Redevelopment of Dachong Village, Nanshan, She...

Under China’s totalitarian government, people can now join a Christian Church as long as that Church registers with the government. Many Western Christians are fooled into thinking that the Chinese are now free to believe whatever they want but not quite. They’re free to believe what they want as long as the government approves.

Called the “Three-Self Patriotic Movement” all Churches must register and be approved for service times, locations and who is allowed to preach. Any Church that’s not registered gets harassed by government agents and some members are arrested and imprisoned while denied human rights. Despite the persecution, millions of Chinese are believing in Jesus and facing the hate.

Life Is But A Cruise

Reenacting torture during a demonstration in B...

Most of us in this present day and age can’t stand to be uncomfortable for a few minutes.  We come unglued if our flight gets delayed or we get stuck in traffic for a few hours.  What would we do if we faced imprisonment, torture and death for our faith?  A better question to ask is, What will we do when we face imprisonment, torture and death for our faith in Jesus?  What will we do?

Jesus told us to get on our cruise ships and follow him.  No, He said we must pick up our crosses and follow Him (Luke 14:27, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34).  “Cross” doesn’t refer to getting stuck in an elevator with a loud mouth and miss an important luncheon.  The cross means a tortuous death!  The Bible tells us that we must suffer (2 Titus 2:3) and we’re blessed when others persecute us (Matthew 5:11-12).  Does that make you feel good?

The next time we get hurt and upset because the boss moved our desk away from the window (that really happened) we could take a moment to think of modern day martyrs.  Bounchan lost his job as a Communist Party district leader in Laos.  Soon, he was imprisoned, tortured, starved, locked in stocks and placed in solitary confinement for more than 10 years!  His crime – telling others about Jesus.

God Isn’t Fair

A seated, listless child, who was among many k...As far as I’ve learned about recorded history, there has always been world hunger and homelessness.  There’s always someone who’s in great need and someone else with more than enough.  I’ve asked the same question that many of us ask, “If there is a God Why Doesn’t He Do Something?  Why did God give some people so much and others so little?  God isn’t fair!”

Q: Did God give some people wealth so they could flaunt it and look down there noses at those who are poor?

One day, I received the answer.

2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

1 Timothy 6:17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

Proverbs 22:9 A generous person will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.

Proverbs 11:24 One person is generous  and yet grows more wealthy, but another withholds more than he should  and comes to poverty.  11:25 A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied.  11:26 People will curse the one who withholds grain, but they will praise the one who sells it.

Hebrews 13:16 And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

A:  God gave wealth to some people so they would generously give to those who don’t have what they need.  So it’s not God being unfair, it’s those of us who have but don’t give!  Many of us still haven’t learned this.
