People would like you more if you got a new hair-do.”  “Your hair-do looks awful!”  “That outfit makes you look fat.”  “The clothes you wear make you look too skinny.”  “Don’t let yourself go bald!”  “I got you this anti-aging cream because you need it.”  “You know, it would be good for you to get out and so stuff more.”  “Why don’t you stay home more often?”

Q: What does the Lord of the Bible have to say about criticism?

The majority of people in this mean, cruel world are critics. They criticize you, me and everyone except themselves.  I ran a search on using the word “criticize” and to my surprise numerous scriptures came up.  Here are just a few.

Matthew 7:1Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults–unless, of course, you want the same treatment (MSG).

Matthew 7:3 It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. 7:4 Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? 7:5 It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a wash cloth to your neighbor (MSG).

2 Corinthians 8:20 We take this course so that no one should blame us about this generous gift that is being administered by us (ESV).

Romans 14:16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil (ESV).

Job 6:25 How painful are honest words! But what do your arguments prove (NIV)?

Psalm 119:39 Take away the insults that I dread! Indeed, your regulations are good (NET).

1 Corinthians 9:3 This is my defense to those who examine me (NET).

Romans 14:13 Forget about deciding what’s right for each other.  Here’s what you need to be concerned about: that you don’t get in the way of someone else, making life more difficult than it already is (MSG).

Job 40:2 “Do you still want to argue with the Almighty?  You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” (NLT).

Isaiah 29:24 Those who stray morally will gain understanding; those who complain will acquire insight (NET).

James 2:4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? (NASB).

Numbers 12:1 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (NASB).

Mark 14:6 But Jesus said, Let her be; why are you troubling her?  She has done a kind act to me (BBE).

My analysis: Biblical interpretations use these words as synonyms for criticism.

Criticism = pick on, jump on, criticize their faults, judge, blame, contempt, sneer, ugly sneer, evil, arguments, insults, examine, deciding what’s right for each other, argue, complain, judges with evil motives, speak against, trouble

The synonyms reek of negativity!
