Answered Prayers

For the first part of my life, I did not believe that God answered prayers. Funny thing is, I never bothered to pray and ask for anything!

James 4:2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.

Then when I asked God for things I didn’t get what I wanted.

James 4:3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

Then I asked God for necessities only like food, money for bills, a vehicle that didn’t drop dead on the highway. Immediately, after asking I thought, “You’re not going to get it.” so I didn’t.

James 1:6 Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves (MSG).

I constantly worried about everything all the time.

James 1:7 Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way (MSG)

God did not give me what I asked for even though, I needed them.

James 1:8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do (BBE).

I look back now and can see how insecure I was with all aspects of my life. It did not change until I nearly became homeless and terrified to the point of major anxiety. Then I asked God to help me (no things attached) and He gave me what I needed.

James 1:17 Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle (MSG).

He answered my prayer. I did not end up living in a cardboard box!

As my attitude gradually improved, I gradually received more answers to many more prayers. Here are a few:

2008  I bought a house at a good price and in a safe neighborhood with good neighbors.

I can now meet people without the anxiety that I used to feel.

On a job interview, I asked for more money than I’ve made before and got it!

I earned more than enough money at the end of December to pay the mortgage, all the bills and buy gifts.

2009   God gave me a temp job right when I needed it most. It was easy and local.

2010  God healed skin problems that the doctors said would, “Never go away” and I should “Learn to live with it”!

God gave me confidence and high self-esteem.

2011  God gave me all the money that I needed to pay my March bills when I          wasn’t making much money.

God gave me many free things that I could sell and keep all the profits.

God gave me sales on Ebay and Amazon.

God gave me a tax refund about a week before I really needed it to pay     bills.

God gave me help from neighbors to cut down overgrown shrubs.

God gave me the money and the right people to remove a tree that was about to fall and damage the neighbor’s property.

God gave me free furniture in good condition with free delivery.  I did not   have much furniture.

2012   God gave me my daily bread literally.

God gave me money to pay bills through internet and garage sales.

Drama Queen

Get in touch with your inner drama queen.

Wikihow.com

In the last post, “No More Svengali” I described someone who I know as a drama queen.  Being the nerd that I am I had to look up drama queen and I found more than I expected.

Urban Dictionary has some great definitions of drama queen.  This one is the best fit for the Svengali DQ who’s now out of my life.

Someone who turns something unimportant into a major deal. Someone who blows things way out of proportion when ever the chance is given.

“Oh my god! You copied that without giving the other person credit! That is just mean. You’re horrible, don’t talk to me. I’m gonna go tell everyone what a cruel person you are just so they will pay attention to me and think I’m cool.”

ehow has good info on dealing with drama queens.

I especially like the part about “When drama queens explode they have a tendency to break things.”  “Do not, under any circumstances, replace” broken items.  It will encourage more drama.

Another ehow article that gives valuable advice to the alleged drama queen.

Scientific American  “Dangerous Liaisons”

Apparently, drama queens are a serious problem in this world that now scientists have studied them and categorized some as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).  Page 2 gives strategies for dealing with drama queens.

Whitney Houston 1963-2012... We will always lo...

Whitney Houston 1963-2012… We will always love you!!!! (Photo credit: his grace)

I’m soooo slow!  On June 10th, I posted the question “Did Whitney Houston subconsciously abuse her voice to get away from Clive Davis?”

Strangely, this question came to me as soon as I woke up.  I had not listened to her music or read anything about her recently.  I remembered the interview with Diane Sawyer where Whitney alluded to Clive Davis as her Svengali.

A strong feeling stayed with me that day and I thought, “Maybe this Svengali notion was less about someone I’ve never met (Whitney or Clive) and more about someone in my life.”  However, no one came to mind.

NOW I KNOW!  It was obvious but I was oblivious.

For months, I’ve been in a joint venture with a woman who has her own established business.  Since my business is new and struggling I was doing some work for her as needed.  Although we got along together, she is a harsh judge and two-faced.  She was often riding an emotional roller coaster.  What I really mean to say is, she was a drama queen!  In a nano second, she could blow up and go from joking to Jerry Springer over little bitty unimportant things.

Unpredictable is a good way to describe her.  If I had something planned for the day she often called me with something to do for her.  Money was included but not enough to make it worth tolerating her.  I’m an easy-going person and when it comes to making money sometimes I put up with behaviors that I shouldn’t.

That very evening of June 10th, she called to sever our joint venture because I wasn’t available on Sunday morning when she needed me for something that came up.  At first, I felt stunned because she didn’t act like it was serious until that evening.  Every other time, I was available to help her but because of this one Sunday morning when I wasn’t she cut the rope.

Less than five minutes later, I felt so GOOD!  Like someone let me out of prison.  It was then, I realized how she was draining my energy with her drama roller coaster rides.  I didn’t make much money in business with her but I spent a great deal of my time doing things that she was too busy to do.  Was she a Svengali with sinister motives?  No, I think she was more of a blood sucking control freak!  Maybe that’s not a huge difference though.

Isn’t that fascinating?  God gave me a message in the morning that my situation was like someone elses situation.  It should have been obvious right then who needed to get out of my life.  The Svengali in my life cut me loose that evening but I didn’t figure it all out until almost two weeks later.  How pathetically slow of me!  I thank God that He freed me from a draining business relationship before anything bad happened.  Bye bye Svengali!

Rot in Hell

Q: Why are so many Christians hateful toward Atheists?

Quotes are taken from  Shy David’s Jesusphile Page.  They are wickedly funny and filled with hateful remarks from “Christians”.  Gives insight into how some (perhaps many) Christians view Atheists.

“Atheists. I hope they rot in Hell. Hey they don’t worry about it!”

“Fuck you Atheist! When I find out where you live, I’ll drive a pitchfork through that empty head of yours, you arrogant pig!”

“When you die, you’re going to Hell, and are going to permanently suffer down there. And I’ll be laughing at all the Atheist bastards in this echo, when I’m up in heaven.”

“You and all the other atheists in this echo are sloth pigs, who don’t give a damn about life, and are going nowhere in it.”

Q: What did Jesus say in Luke 6:28?  Cuss out those who cuss you?

A:  No, “BLESS those who curse you, PRAY for those who abuse you

“Atheist. I’m going to love waving to you when you go to hell, and I’m in heaven. And when you go to hell, I’ll get the last laugh!”

“You are nothing but a stupid atheist pig, with the IQ of a democrat.”

“Just a bunch of crazy Atheist…(who will all burn in Hell)…”

“Just by a group being an atheist group, generally means it is a hate group.”

If the Atheists are the hate group what are these Christians?

A:  1 Corinthians 13:1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

These folks make a lot of noise!

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious.  Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. 13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. 13:6 It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. 13:7  It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I know that these “Christians” who said such things are not a few but the many.

Q:  If Christians approached Atheists with THE LOVE spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13:1 would Atheists believe in Jesus?
