For the first part of my life, I did not believe that God answered prayers. Funny thing is, I never bothered to pray and ask for anything!
James 4:2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
Then when I asked God for things I didn’t get what I wanted.
James 4:3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
Then I asked God for necessities only like food, money for bills, a vehicle that didn’t drop dead on the highway. Immediately, after asking I thought, “You’re not going to get it.” so I didn’t.
James 1:6 Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves (MSG).
I constantly worried about everything all the time.
James 1:7 Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way (MSG)
God did not give me what I asked for even though, I needed them.
James 1:8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do (BBE).
I look back now and can see how insecure I was with all aspects of my life. It did not change until I nearly became homeless and terrified to the point of major anxiety. Then I asked God to help me (no things attached) and He gave me what I needed.
James 1:17 Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle (MSG).
He answered my prayer. I did not end up living in a cardboard box!
As my attitude gradually improved, I gradually received more answers to many more prayers. Here are a few:
2008 I bought a house at a good price and in a safe neighborhood with good neighbors.
I can now meet people without the anxiety that I used to feel.
On a job interview, I asked for more money than I’ve made before and got it!
I earned more than enough money at the end of December to pay the mortgage, all the bills and buy gifts.
2009 God gave me a temp job right when I needed it most. It was easy and local.
2010 God healed skin problems that the doctors said would, “Never go away” and I should “Learn to live with it”!
God gave me confidence and high self-esteem.
2011 God gave me all the money that I needed to pay my March bills when I wasn’t making much money.
God gave me many free things that I could sell and keep all the profits.
God gave me sales on Ebay and Amazon.
God gave me a tax refund about a week before I really needed it to pay bills.
God gave me help from neighbors to cut down overgrown shrubs.
God gave me the money and the right people to remove a tree that was about to fall and damage the neighbor’s property.
God gave me free furniture in good condition with free delivery. I did not have much furniture.
2012 God gave me my daily bread literally.
God gave me money to pay bills through internet and garage sales.
