I Can’t Be Wrong!

Q: Does the Bible really mean whatever we want it to mean?

Many people attending church are tought that we can interpret scriptures however we like.  I was sitting in a crowded church when the preacher told everyone, “The Bible can mean one thing to me, another thing to you and another thing to someone else.  We’re all right in our own way.  No one is wrong!”  The people went wild and cheered.  It was an ultra “conservative” church.  Recently, a church person told me that a certain scripture meant something.  I told him that’s not what it referred to.  He got mad and insisted, “It can mean what ever I want and I can’t be wrong!”  Is that really true?

A: Jesus has the answer… Mark 12:24 Jesus said to them, “Aren’t you deceived for this reason, because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God?

When we believe that the Bible can mean what ever we want it to mean we are deceived, we don’t know the scriptures and we don’t know the POWER OF GOD.

Mark 12:26-27  Now as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead but of the living. You are badly mistaken!

Jesus interpreted the Bible correctly and used scriptures to show the people how their interpretations were BADLY mistaken.

WARNING!!!

Matthew 24:4 Jesus answered them, “Watch out that no one misleads you.

David Koresh had his own Biblical interpretation in Waco, Texas.  Jim Jones of the Jones Town massacre had his own interpretation.  The grand inquisitors of the Spanish Inquisition had their own interpretations.

News Flash

Jesus loves you but hates your gods!

Revelation 9:19-21

The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.” Those that survived this sixth trumpet judgment refused to repent “of the works of their hands.”

Note:  I had no difficulty finding web sites for demons most of them were pro demons.

Atheists vs Christians

Q:  Why do Atheists and Christians hate each other?

I’ll be honest.  There was a time when I felt hatred particularly toward Atheists and I don’t know why.  Especially, after having had my own agnostic time.

Need the answer please.

ASK

Ask, Seek, Knock

Q: How do we ask GOD for what we want?

A:  Ask, Seek, Knock, A-S-K.  Jesus himself told us how to ask for what we need in Mathew 7:7-8;

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

He tells us plainly that it’s a 3 step process. First, we verbally ask him in prayer, out loud or in writing. Second, we must seek the answer. That means look around, go on a quest and do research. Third, we must knock “on doors”. The LORD is telling us to do something not just sit around watching TV. We have to knock on doors by trying out things, call up some people and maybe literally knock on some one’s door.

Q: “I asked GOD last Thursday for something but I didn’t get an answer!  Why not?”

A: Doing these 3 things, Ask, Seek, Knock, requires persistence over time. That means we have to keep it up and follow the process. In time, He assures us that EVERYONE who asks will receive an answer. The answer may be “Yes”, “No” or “This is how to do it.” but Jesus guarantees that EVERYONE who asks will RECEIVE an answer. The ONE who seeks FINDS what he is looking for.  The LORD uses the singular “one” instead of the plural “everyone” for seeking because not everyone will go on the quest to look and if it is meaningful we must go on a quest.  To the ONE who knocks on the door, GOD will open the door for him.  Again, the singular “one” is used with knocking because that’s more work and the majority of people will not get out and knock on doors.

Notice, that the LORD does not say, “Maybe receive… if you find it… the door might be opened” but instead He says, “Will be”. That’s called a guarantee!

Q: What if I ask Him for a better job but I don’t get it?

A: Jesus goes on to say in Mathew 7:9-11 ,

Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Even though, we are evil we still give our children what they ask for. He is saying that Father GOD is not evil and wants to give us good things. His nature is totally different from ours. Our nature is evil but the nature of GOD is pure and wholesome. This again backs up His guarantee that we WILL receive what we ask for when we follow the three step process of Ask, Seek, Knock.

God Who?

Q: Who is GOD?

This is a question I’ve asked myself many times (see My Story page).  I’ve been largely agnostic until I decided that I wanted to know God, however, God didn’t turn out to be who I wanted Him to be.

A: Jesus / Y’SHUA

Q: How can you be so sure God is Jesus? Based on what?

A: Based on His miracles up to the present day (see Miracles of Jesus), the numerous prophecies about His life death and resurrection from thousands of years before He came (see Prophecies of Jesus), His words of forgiveness and restoration (see Forgiveness and Restoration) and not self-actualization. [self-actualization means we can get to heaven by ourselves] His prophecies that have come true and are coming true today, His claim to be God and his demonstration by doing what no one else could ever do – resurrect from the dead, the way he cares for a looser like me and the miracles He worked for me. For example, He took away the intense emotional pain that I felt throughout my life and He will never let me kill myself.

College Debt = Bad Debt

Danger Will Robinson!

Picture compliments of TheRobotLab.com

Q:  Why do we think we have to go to college?

Throughout my life, I heard the message, “You can’t make it these day without a college degree.”  Later, the message morphed into, “You can’t make it these day without an advanced college degree.”  I believed what I heard and fell for it all hook, line and sinker.  Now, I’m caught in a fishy net of debt, stress and hating my career that I’m still paying for.  I’m not alone!

A: We think that we have to get college degrees because we all want more money and higher status.  Our society has done a great job of hitting us with the message that we must have a; college degree, big house, new car, vacation, cable TV, an advanced college degree, yata, yata, yata.

Proverbs 23:4-5 Do not wear yourself out to become rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself. 5 When you gaze upon riches, they are gone, for they surely make wings for themselves, and fly off into the sky like an eagle!

Of course, society doesn’t have to work very hard to turn us toward materialism.  Timothy 6:9 Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  We all long to be rich, affluent and upwardly mobile.

Q: If we don’t go to college what are we going to do, work at McDonald’s?

A: We all need job skills but the problem is college does us no good if we come out deeper in debt than ever before.  Proverbs 22:7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a servant to the lender.  Truly, we end up in a worse situation because we are more of a poor servant than before.

Mark Cuban has been observing and asking great questions about what’s really going on in higher education in his blog, BlogMaverick.com.  He compares the college debt game with the housing bubble and how it is likely to affect our nation and economy in the, closer than we want to think, future.

As usual, Mark Cuban is on the money.  To sum up his post, the money for these expensive student loans comes from the US government as well as much of the money that colleges use to build bigger buildings then raise tuition.  All of this educational borrowing has the same consequences as those easy ARM home loans did and we end up broker.  I recommend reading his article and it’s not all doom and gloom as he does give us some light in a dark place.

Q: Hey, Mark Cuban got a college degree so why listen to him?

That’s a great question!  Cuban earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  He worked as a bartender, dance instructor, and made money selling things to pay for college.  To top it off, he chose the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University because out of all the business schools on the top 10 list of that time, Kelley cost the least!  Now he’s so rich that he’s a shark on Shark Tank (Wikipedia on Mark Cuban).

A: Therefore, Cuban is qualified to give advice about money, college and business.  He’s not saying, don’t go to college instead, DON’T go into debt to go to college.  He also gives us alternatives to traditional college.

Proverbs 13:20  The one who associates with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

Listen to the robot, “Danger, Will Robinson!  Danger in student loans!”

Solar Eclipse

Ring of Fire

Q:  Does a solar eclipse have prophetic meaning?

A: Yes, it does but the specific meaning is unclear. When I was in grade school we studied eclipses whenever they popped up. I recall a text-book discussing how in ancient history, eclipses had different meanings in different cultures and were fearful omens to primitive cultures. This public school text-book also taught us that thanks to NASA and science we had nothing to fear because now we know what causes eclipses. Hence, knowing that eclipses are caused by the moon and planets lining up in a specific pattern means nothing more than just that.  Today, we learn more about eclipses and that includes prophetic meaning. Simply because we know the science behind them doesn’t mean there is not a deeper, prophetic message that all of us must consider.

In the Bible, God tells us more.  Genesis 1:14 God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs to indicate seasons and days and years.

Jesus himself tells in Luke 21:25, And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth nations will be in distress, anxious over the roaring of the sea and the surging waves.  Just today, we have seen one sign in the sun, moon and perhaps the stars.

Q: What’s happening on planet Earth?

A: Nations appear to be in distress over threats of nuclear war and / or war between Israel and Arab nations.  Not to mention, anxiety that many people have over so-called, global warming, relating to the sea (melting polar ice?) and the surging waves (tsunamis?).

Q: Is there meaning in the solar eclipse of May 20-21, 2012?

A: Yes. According to those who study eclipses and prophecy, there can be many meanings.  In general, “Rabbinical teachings” view a solar eclipse as a negative sign for the enemies of Israel and possibly a good or bad sign for Israel itself.  It often depends on if an eclipse occurs on a Jewish festival.

Here are a few interesting points concerning the eclipse, Israel and the nations.  Read them judiciously.  Some are confusing as they are mixed with astrology, astronomy and human traditions.

Daily Bread

Q: What is Jesus talking about when He says in Luke 11:3,Give us each day our daily bread”?

A: King Solomon, the wisest and richest man who ever lived, gave us the answer long before we asked the question.

Proverbs 30:8-9 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; do not give me poverty or riches, feed me with my allotted portion of bread, 9 lest I become satisfied and act deceptively and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I become poor and steal and demean the name of my God.

When we get more than enough food we become satisfied and act deceptively. When we don’t have enough food for a day we become poor (in every meaning of the word) and we are likely to steal.

Psalms 49:6 “They trust in their wealth and boast in their great riches.”

Q: Why does Jesus expect such a thing from us?

A:  Both scenarios, too much food vs not enough food, have consequences. Those are deception and theft in addition to harming our relationship with God. When we live simply day-to-day and trust God we get focused on how much we need him. We learn to trust God and depend on him. The best part is, we gain a better relationship with Jesus.

I’m learning these things the hard and easy ways. When I thought only of money and worried about it I was less than honest in my work.  Mainly, doing what bosses wanted me to do knowing that they wanted me to do the wrong thing just to make money. When I finally said, “No, that’s not right.” the bosses found someone else who would do anything for money. That actually made me feel better because I hated every day despite all the money I made.

Next, I ran out of money and got desperate. I didn’t steal anything but I did turn to the evil credit card, which has gotten me deeper in debt. Now, that I’m at the end of my money rope, I’m asking God each day for what I need. Not barely enough to survive but exactly what and how much that He knows I need each day to live. I’m learning to trust God and God has been supplying all my needs!

Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”
